Right now, I’m sat in the midst of a mess in my newly-decorated bedroom, surrounded by papers.
Ranging from past exam papers, bills, bank statements, work payment slips, and if I recieve one more prospectus for some shit university, I’m going to scream.
Today, we had a “fun” day packed full of those terrible informative games that teach you all about finance and student loans. Tomorrow, the same again, but this time we get to stare at a computer screen for two hours whilst trying to pen our Personal Statements on the UCAS applications. Every question they asked us today was centred around the Post-University career options and no matter how many times I said “Well, I’m going to go travelling straight after…” or “umm I’ll just busk my way around the world…” or “sorry, how does this apply to me? – I’m going travelling, see.”, I still received that infuriating sceptical grimace that people who disapprove of travelling give.
I vaguely respect your opinion, darling, so stop trying to force it onto me. Just because I don’t want to see the woolly sheep and shores of wales, go to university, get an underpaid 9-5 job, get married, blast out some kids, get screwed over by them, get old and have to shit myself because I can’t walk to the toilet on my own, doesn’t mean I’m going to fail at life.
I want to go, do and see everything. I want to be on my death bed knowing that I have done everything except harsh drugs and died. I want to overcome all my fears and make memories that create amazing stories of fear and bravery that awe my grandchildren, and hilarious stories that crack up a group of young african boys and girls. I’ve made a list -
- Swim with Sharks
- Hold a Snake (I have an obscenely massive phobia of them)
- Hanglide
- Sky-Dive
- Bunji Jump
- Scuba Dive
- Learn to Salsa
- Learn to fly a plane (I’ve a fear of that too)
- Threesome with two famous actors (hell yes)
- Discover an Incatemple
- Space Travel (yes, it’s possible now apparently)
- I want to Touch someone’s Life
- Learn to Speak several Languages
- Fish in South Africa
- Do relief work in Ethiopia
- Work in the Monkey Sanctuary in Namibia
- Watch the Sun-Set over the Grand Canyon
- Drive a Formula One car
- White Water Rafting
- Have a Football tournament with kids in Mozambique.
- Help build lives for People in Third World Countries
- I want to be able to look at my Watch and know exactly what people would be doing in Japan, China, Yemen, Oman, Malaysia, Antartica and Chile, (to name only a few) at that point.
- Get married, just me and him (oh, and the priest) on a beach, at sunset, in Morocco.
- Learn to Surf.
- Rollerskate through California
- Learn to Rollerskate
- And obviously, buy a pair of Manolo Blahniks in New York =]
Not much, really. Just the usual.
Gradually, I’m going to check those off my list, and if there is anything I’ve forgotton - please tell me.
I know we all have different views of living our lives, we all have different aspirations and ambitions, so why look down on mine when it’s deemed disrespectful if I tell you straight-up how boring your life is as a teacher, for Christ’s sake at least try to spice it up and have a fucking affair.
